Elephant got tired of the paparazzi

Don't run over the beetles!

Warthogs! They really are ugly.

This one is eating, they kneel to get closer to the grass.

They got close. Really close.

They say this male is a bit of a terrorist, and harasses the visitors

Me with my ostrich steak late lunch

The story of Hapoor, an elephant from the park a long time ago, who used to terrorize the staff, and was ousted by other males who wanted to be the leaders. He escaped and had to be shot.

They stuffed and mounted Harpoor in the restaurant.

He got pretty close to us

We went on a guided safari, where we saw more elephants, kudu, bat-eared foxes, hares......

And lions!!
We are home! Sweet, glorious, home! Except it's messy. No one came in to clean for us while we are gone, isn't that rude? I had a dentist's appt this morning and I am afraid the news is not good - my sore tooth, well the root is dead apparently. I need a root canal, and then a crown later on. The first available appt to get that done is WHEN you ask? The day after my birthday (I was born on March 11, in case you need to do some shopping), at 7am, of course. What a brutal fall to reality.

I am finishing up the final pictures we took at Addo Elephant Park. Shamus and I are going to work on creating a slideshow of our trip, so all of our friends and family are going to be subjected to that soon. We are also going to make a photobook, so we are able to torture people with out pics in a portable fashion. Oh! And we can put pictures on our iPods, so Shamus can torture people at work. What fun!

Addo Elephant Park! It has more than just elephants!

Today Shamus and I went to Addo Elephant Park. There are 450 elephants in a park the size of Belgium. And we got to see a lot of them. As well as other animals - lion, ostriches, kudu, foxes, hares, etc. We even had a few up close and personal encounters with the giant beasts! Wait until I can download the videos!
More pictures to come once we get home.

Look at the adorable little baby! The mommy elephants protect the babies so well.

Afternoon at the pool

One thing I just couldn't get over the last few days... the place is empty! The beach wasn't crowded, the pool today only had a handful of families in it, the Bayworld the other day wasn't very busy, the game park today was empty too. Where IS everyone??? Port Elizabeth is an awesome vacation town.

The pool, set right beside the ocean.

Me in the water

Shamus swimming, and us playing around with the waterproof camera.

My turn to have my picture taken.

I love this picture. It was so accidental, you can't see what you are taking a picture of while underwater.

Tomorrow we go to Addo Game Park to see the elephants! Yay!

Fun and frolic on March 3rd

SO if you actually read my blog, you might be wondering what Shamus and I did today in South Africa. We are in the BEACHside town of Port Elizabeth. We are having such a great time. Today we went to a private game reserve and saw bushbucks, ostriches, zebras, giraffes, cheetahs, warthogs, and wildabeast, and antelope.

And in the afternoon, we went to the pool that's right on the beach and had a great time there, too.

I really liked the giraffes.

We nearly ran over this cheetah, it was RIGHT next to the road in his enclosure.

Look at the baby and the mommy.

Baby warthogs!

Mommy ostrich and her babies!

Our beach holiday

Some of the carvings available at the Flea Market they were having on Sunday.

The beach!!

Shamus is posing on the beach!

Okay, me posing on the beach

They have these tame hand-raised penguins at Bayworld

So cute! They take it for walks.

The dolphins are a father and daughter pair, and the 3 year old daughter likes to copy or hinder her dad's tricks.

The dolphin was jumping

Pat his tummy!

The dolphin did a funny trick! He would swim towards the crowd and splash the people... he was really good at it. They also played with big exercise balls and hit them into the crowd.
